- Clozapine is the one and only clearly effective option for treatment-resistant schizophrenia
- Usual effective dosing range: 300-400 mg/day
- If the response is unsatisfactory at 600 mg/day, obtain plasma levels before increasing dose
- Optimal plasma levels: 350-450 ng/ml
- Interactions
- Citalopram and fluvoxamine can increase blood levels
- Cigarette smoking can reduce blood levels by over 50%
