Next here at Quick Takes, let’s look at childhood bipolar disorder.
This is a paper from some authors who’ve been working on this territory for a long time. They produced a new review on the subject in 2018, and it’s kind of the usual rehash of, how do you do diagnosis, and how do you do treatment? But there’s an important message in here. I think you can hear it in the last line of their paper, where the authors said that it would be “better to apply efforts toward advancing the field with empiric evidence than taking tendentious positions that do not help advance the field.” In other words, there has been a lot of controversy in the realm of making the diagnosis of bipolar disorder in kids, and they’re suggesting that everybody should calm down. Let’s just keep applying our efforts to improving our understanding of the illness
