Next in this Quick Take, let’s look at some new treatment guidelines from the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Disorders Treatment, the CANMAT, and the International Society for Bipolar Disorders. These guidelines are the CANMAT/ISBD Treatment Guidelines for 2018.
Why publish treatment guidelines? Many of us are probably not reading them. So, who is using treatment guidelines? In this particular set, there are at least 7 or 8 recent treatment guidelines for bipolar disorder. This particular set has several advantages. First, this is just the most recent iteration of an ongoing set of guidelines. This is a 2018 update on a previously well-structured set of guidelines. Secondly, the group that assembled these includes many members from the International Society for Bipolar Disorders.
