Key Points
- The patient needs to stop short-acting opioid use the night prior to the induction visit. This is to avoid precipitated withdrawal with buprenorphine.
- During early stabilization, the recommendation is to see the patient weekly or bimonthly. Ongoing drug use is very common during the first few months of treatment.
- During the maintenance phase, urine toxicology should be a routine part of treatment.
